A walk-in clinic can help with a new, non-emergency concern when timely care is needed. A family doctor or primary care provider supports ongoing care, prevention and follow-up. A walk-in visit does not automatically register you with a family doctor.
If you already have a family doctor
Contact your regular provider first when practical: their office may offer same-day or after-hours care and has access to your history. If you visit another clinic, bring your medication list and relevant reports. Tell the clinician who your regular provider is, and ask how to share visit details and arrange follow-up.
If you do not have a family doctor
You can call Eliva Care to ask about walk-in availability and, separately, whether family medicine registration is currently open. Registration depends on availability and is not guaranteed. You can also explore Halton Region's resources for finding a primary care provider.
Before you leave your walk-in visit
- Ask what to do if symptoms worsen or do not improve.
- Find out whether tests or a follow-up appointment are needed, and who will contact you with results.
- Ask how your usual provider can receive relevant information.
